Car Crash Involving Human Smuggler Leaves Two Dead

A human smuggler was involved in a car crash that resulted in the deaths of a Texas grandmother and her 7-year-old granddaughter.

According to the Texas DPS (Department of Public Safety), the driver of the car was a human smuggler who was attempting to avoid arrest. The incident occurred when the smuggler, who was trying to evade arrest, ran a red light during a high-speed chase on eastbound I-10 in Ozona, Texas.

The Texas DPS has verified the identities of the people involved in the car crash as 71-year-old Maria Tambunga, Texas grandmother, and Emilia Tambunga, a second-grader at Ozona Elementary School.

The driver’s 2021 Dodge pickup truck was carrying 11 illegal migrants, two of whom were also killed in the car crash, Fox News reported. The driver, Rassian Comer of Louisiana, is in serious condition at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, and charges are pending. Representative Tony Gonzales tweeted his condolences and called for action to address illegal immigration. The funeral for Maria and Emilia was held on Thursday.

This car crash incident is just the latest in a string of similar cases that have occurred along the US-Mexico border in recent months. The surge in illegal immigration has put a tremendous strain on law enforcement agencies, who are struggling to keep up with the influx of people trying to enter the country.

The deaths of Maria Tambunga and Emilia Tambunga in the car crash are a tragedy that should never have happened.
