On Saturday evening, a Houston street takeover resulted in the arrest of three individuals as Texas law enforcement continues to crack down on these dangerous events across the state.
Authorities have been working tirelessly to put an end to these Houston street takeovers, in which car clubs and crowds of people descend on an intersection or parking lot to race, drift, and drive recklessly, Fox News reported.
Houston Police Department’s Traffic Crimes Task Force was launched in December 2020 to tackle these events, which have been occurring frequently in the city. This task force has been working in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies to target and prosecute those who participate in these dangerous activities.

During Saturday’s Houston street takeover, about 200 cars were involved, putting the lives of ordinary motorists and pedestrians at risk. One of the suspects arrested had a 13-year-old passenger in their car, leading to an additional charge of child endangerment.
Harris County Sheriff Major Susan Cotter emphasized the severity of these events, stating that “Things can quickly go wrong” and urging individuals to think about the consequences of their actions.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott also launched a task force this week to combat street takeovers across the state. The task force, established through the Department of Public Safety, aims to work closely with local officials and law enforcement to investigate, prosecute, and prevent these dangerous events from occurring. This comes after a recent street takeover and multiple blocked intersections in the state capital of Austin last weekend, which resulted in multiple arrests and charges ranging from evading arrest to possession of meth and unlawful carrying of weapons.
Abbott stated that “We must send a clear message that these reckless, coordinated criminal events will not be tolerated in Texas.”
