Billions of dollars worth of U.S. currency and printed and engraved every year. In line with this, in a few cases, something malfunctioned and there’s a misprinting. This occurred in July 2016 when the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing dispatched a request to its Forth Worth building to print a batch of dollar bills. Surprisingly, the same request had been sent to its Washington DC facility on November 2104.
As a consequence, over 6.4 million dollars out there with duplicated serial numbers can be found all over the world. Since these dollars are the result of a rate mistake, they’re worth far more than face value.
Here’s what to look for in these bills :
- The Series date placed on the right of the photograph of George Washington reads “Series 2013”
- The bill has a “B” Federal Reserve Seal above the serial number which is located also to the right of the picture of Washington
- The serial number finishes off with a star (*) and falls between B00000001*-B00250000* or B03200001*-B09600000*
