About Harley Quinn

Harley Quinn

First appearing in DC Comics in 1992, Harley was clearly the best of the 2016 DC Comics blockbuster, Suicide Squad. So there was every reason to hope that making an entire movie centred around him would be a huge success. “Birds of Prey” is the origin story of a superhero team, in which Harley follows how Harley brings together a diverse team of superheroes, mostly by accident, coming together with a horde of misfits.

As a film, it’s thin, lively, loud, crazy, distracting, and forgettable. It’s definitely a grittier film than Suicide Squad, but director Kathy Ian pushes the comic book brutality with the same facial aesthetic. Harley has outdone her fellow villains in the past, and she does so here. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is a crossbow-wielding huntress with enough strength, tenacity, coolness, and uncompromising intransigence to be ripe for a spin-off.

review

As the trailer suggests, Robbie becomes a charming and very friendly character. And Ian does his best, drawing the essence of each role from the other actors. the clumsiness of the hunt, the sense of justice of Montoya, the vulnerability of Black Canary, the innocence of Cassandra and even the bizarre evil of Zionis. Credit also goes to Christina Hodson, the author of the film. It’s good to see movies about women written and directed by women. So it’s no wonder your audience isn’t motivated by visual cues and annoying conversations. It warms our hearts to see women doing the same as the R-rated superhero movie that hit the box office after the success of Deadpool. DC has more failures than hits, but Birds of Prey is definitely the last.
