A gruesome incident on Highway 59 at Chimney Rock left a 5-year-old child dead after being ejected from a car driven by an allegedly drunk man. The driver has been arrested and charged with murder, a NewsBreak report quoting the Houston police said.
The incident that happened Saturday afternoon prompted Houston police to rush to the scene. They said that the man who drove the car was drunk.
Witnesses who were also driving along the highway said they saw a Honda being driven dangerously in and out of the southbound lanes. The crash happened soon in a matter of seconds.
Dangerous driving, say witnesses
It is being reported that the driver of the car crashed into an 18-wheeler, but he did not bother to stop even after ramming the large vehicle. He then smashed a red Mercedes and also a box truck. As soon as the box truck was hit, the little girl was ejected from the car.
She was rushed to the hospital by the medical personnel at the Houston Forced Department. However, she was in a critical condition and could not be saved. Debates are on whether the girl had been wearing a seatbelt.
Three kids in the car, 2 survive crash
The Houston Police Department, in the meanwhile, said that the car had two more children inside the car beside the 5-year-old. The unfortunate girl was the eldest of three kids, the HPD added. The other kids, a 4-year-old and a 2-year-old, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The police are probing more to find out about the relation between the driver and the three small children. The man who has been taken into custody and charged with murder will now be interrogated. More info is likely to flow out soon after the questioning process is over.
