Authorities continue the hunt for Brian Laundrie, YouTuber Gabby Petito’s fiancé and the prime suspect in her death, in the 25,000 acres Carlton Reserve in Sarasota County, Florida, on Wednesday. Dive teams and boats were called in to assist the search. Police officers are also asking the public’s help to locate 23-year-old Laundrie.
The search was eventually called off for the day and will resume Thursday, The Independent reported.
Petito’s family criticized the lawyer who is representing the Laundrie family and is asking the lawyer to remove photos of the 22-year-old woman that was uploaded on his Yelp page. The YouTuber’s family is threatening him with legal action and calling his statement over the discovery of Petito’s body “disgusting.”
The FBI on Wednesday confirmed that the autopsy done with the body found on Sunday in a remote area of Wyoming were of that Petito’s.
Her death was ruled a homicide, according to the Teton County Coroner, but the actual cause of then is yet to be determined.
An eyewitness earlier claimed that she saw Laundrie “acting weird” in the Spread Creek portion of the Bridger-Teton National Forest while she was on a vacation in Wyoming.
The woman, identified as Jessica Schultz, tipped off her encounter to the FBI which helped the force narrow their search area to Spread Creek. The police also investigated a trail cam footage that possibly captured an image of Laundrie on a hike but concluded there was no connection.
On Monday, officers searched most in the Laundrie family home and were pictured loading cardboard boxes into a van and fleeing in a silver Ford Mustang. According to his parents, they have not seen their son for over a week.
The police also received a tip about a possible sighting of Laundrie near Mobile, Alabama, on Monday. There is still no confirmation if the lead was real.
Petito was reported missing on Sept. 11, while on a months-long van trip across the country with her fiancé. Laundrie returned to Florida three days later. He has been missing since Sept. 14.
