San Antonio Firefighter Held On Suspicion Of Driving While Intoxicated

A firefighter from San Antonio, Texas, has been arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated. The firefighter in question was identified as Nicolas R. Delacruz, and reports say that the incident happened early Friday morning.

Police say that they saw Delacruz driving without his headlights on while in the St. Mary’s nightlife strip. Officers then pursued Delacruz by turning on their emergency lights in an attempt to pull him over. The 27-year-old drove onto the sidewalk and parked as he waited for the officials to approach him.

The officers who approached Delacruz said they observed that he was exhibiting signs of intoxication. They also conducted a field sobriety test, which Delacruz failed. After which, they arrested the firefighter on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. This is a class B misdemeanor, so he was booked into the Bexar County jail. A judge set the bond of Delacruz at $1,000. It is unclear if he is already out of jail.

A spokesman for the San Antonio Fire Department, Joe Arrington, released a statement regarding the issue. He said that Delacruz would be placed on administrative duty while waiting for the conclusion of the criminal case against him. They will also conduct an internal review to decide if Delacruz will be disciplined only or be fired from his post.
