At least four children were seriously injured in a vehicle crash in Galveston. The male driver was apparently drunk and is said to be the father of the kids. He was arrested and faces a charge of intoxicated assault. He will be booked into the Galveston County Jail on a $50,000 bond, officials said.
According to Galveston County Sheriff Henry Trochesset, there were two adults, a male and a female, and eight children in the vehicle.
The crash occurred near Tiki Island when the vehicle they were in crashed after exiting I-45 northbound. The vehicle veered off the highway and into a grassy marsh.
Except for the case of “intoxicated assault” that would be filed against the driver, details regarding the name of the suspect remain unavailable as of press time.
Galveston County Sheriff Henry Trochesset said four of the eight children inside the car were hurt, with one of the kids suffering a broken leg. Interestingly, none of the children was restrained.
Responding rescuers said that all four injured kids, accompanied by their mom, were rushed to UTMB Health John Sealy Emergency Center.
Meanwhile, in another incident, a suspected drunk driver was taken into custody after authorities said the driver crashed into a police cruiser. According to Fox26, an officer was inside the patrol vehicle at the time and was injured.
No charges have been filed yet against the driver.
