A Dallas officer was injured after a suspect who was handcuffed in the backseat of a squad car stole the vehicle, police said.
During the time of the incident, which took place near the 11100 block of Hazelcrest Drive just after 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon, two officers were working on a stolen vehicle incident and had placed the handcuffed suspect in a squad car.
While the two officers were engaged in a discussion outside behind the car regarding the incident, the suspect somehow managed to get into the driver’s seat and drove off.
One of the officers then tried to get inside the car but he was dragged for a short distance before he fell on the road. He suffered minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital.
According to police, another officer went after the stolen car but it eventually crashed into a vacant field. The suspect was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
