New York running on Fumes: Gas prices in New York will be getting expensive, starting today

Gas prices in the Tri-State area are well above the national average, but New York drivers will get a little relief

Today the state's 16 cent per gallon gas tax is suspended through the end of the year - and some New York counties

The state is temporarily dropping its share of the sales tax on gas, a not very noticeable boost to wallets

It’s a discount of about 3%, running from June 1 to Dec. 31 — then the tax comes back

The tax-free period just cover the summer vacation period, when people tend to hit the road and travel more
