According to the Boerne Police Department, Boerne resident, Melissa Rowley, 45, was arrested yesterday, Friday, August 17, 2018. At 3:42 AM, officers were dispatched to the Vista Apartments at 125 Crosspoint in Boerne for a burglary in progress.
As reported by the caller, Rowley, someone was trying to get inside through her front door. She later said that someone was inside.
The responding officers were unable to locate anyone in her apartment or any evidence indicating a break-in was attempted by anyone.
After clearing the scene, they were dispatched again approximately 3 minutes later to the same residence reportedly for unknown persons spraying something under her front door.
Officers did not find anything that looked to have been sprayed under the door. Rowley then told officers that there was someone outside her window. Officers did not see anyone there.
The media release states that “Dispatch was on the phone with the caller and told her officers were outside her apartment. Officers were then told by dispatch that the caller could not hear them knocking and asked that they knock harder on her front door which the officers did. Suddenly, the caller started shooting her pistol with some of the bullets going in the officer’s direction.”
The responding Boerne police officers retreated to their patrol cars to take cover and were able to yell verbal commands to Rowley and she ended up surrendering and arrested by the two officers without incident.
The two officers, Pablo Morales, a six-year veteran, and Nicholas McWright, a one-year veteran, did not sustain any injuries during the gunfire.
Melissa Rowley has been charged with two counts of Attempt Capital Murder of a Police Officer.
