SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Texasbreaking.com) – The investigation continues after a suspected burglar was shot and killed by a police officer during an altercation involving a Taser.
Wednesday afternoon the San Antonio Police Department received a call reporting a suspicious man pulling the license plates off a stranded vehicle near Austin highway on the northeast side of town.
Police arrived on the scene and the situation immediately escalated when they attempted to handcuff the suspect for safety reasons.
San Antonio Police Chief, William McManus, says an officer tased the man but it had no effect. “He actually then took the Taser from the officer and then tased the officer,” McManus explains.
The suspect was fatally shot by another policeman after he tried to retrieve a knife from his pocket.
His identity has not yet been released other than he appears to be in his mid-thirties. However, McManus says that a detective knew of him as a “serial burglar”.
The vehicle was identified as a Cadillac XTS that was reported missing earlier.
According to the San Antonio Express-News, both officers were placed on administrative duty until investigators are able to close this case.
