ARLINGTON, Texas (TexasBreaking.com) – Jennifer Medlock gave birth to the largest baby born at the Arlington Memorial Hospital, according to a Texas Health Resources representative who spoke with USA Today.
Ali James Medlock blew everyone away on December 12th after being delivered by c-section. 21.5 inches long and weighing 14 pounds and 13 ounces, he was just a few pounds less than JaMichael Johnson who broke the state record in 2011 at 16 pounds.
They expected another large baby like Ali’s older sister Annabelle, Jennifer Medlock tells Laredo’s KVTV. However, they didn’t expect him to be twice the size of the average newborn baby. Eric, Ali’s father says, he’s already wearing a size 3 in diapers and clothing that would normally fit a 6-month-old baby.
This isn’t even the first time Ali surprised his parents, according to his mom. Due to Jennifer having severe Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, she and her husband Eric were about to begin fertility treatments. Then they found out their sweet baby was already on his way.
Ali spent about a week in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit due to minor conditions but was released December 19th, just in time to celebrate his first Christmas.
According to an update on their GoFundMe page, Jennifer is recovering from an infection she got after her c-section. She is able to be home with Ali while continuing to receive care from home health nurses.
While many predict that Ali will be a future sports star, his parents who are both music teachers, are hoping he will follow music as well.
