Man dies after three unidentified individuals dropped him off at a Texarkana shelter

TEXARKANA, Texas (Texasbreaking.com)- The suspicious death of Anthony Ray Mathis,54, is being investigated by the Texarkana Police Department after he was found unconscious in the lobby of the Randy Sams Shelter.

TPD wrote in a press release that officers were dispatched to assist an ambulance on a call at the shelter at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Friday, January 4. Upon the police department’s arrival, EMS were performing CPS on Mathis until he was transferred to the Wadley Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

“According to witnesses, two men and a woman pulled into the Randy Sams parking lot in a white SUV, believed to be a Hyundai Santa Fe. After one man unloaded a wheelchair from the back of the vehicle, the other man placed Mathis, who was obviously unconscious at that point, in the wheelchair,” wrote the Texarkana Police Department. “They pushed Mathis into the lobby, attempted to prop him up in the wheelchair, and then left in their vehicle without any explanation.”

The press release said that witnesses noticed Mathis and took him out of the wheelchair and started medical assistance while calling 9-1-1.

An autopsy is being performed in Dallas to determine Mathis’ cause of death.

The Texarkana Police Department Detectives are currently investigating the death and are looking to identify the three individuals in the vehicle that drove Mathis to the Randy Sams Shelter.
