The Hill Country Arts Foundation is excited to share information about their upcoming Memoir Writing Workshop.
“This memoir writing workshop at the Hill Country Arts Foundation will build your confidence while you transform memories into compelling narratives that help you share your story with a reader. The instructor, Justin Rogers, shares tips on the elements of memoir, narrative strategies, finding your own writing topics, and dispelling the confusion over creativity and the truth-telling implied in memoir writing.
Furthermore, this workshop wishes to take the writer wherever they are in thinking about memoir writing and increasing their knowledge of the genre and craft. Memoir writing is both artistic but also research. Justin Rogers says, “I like to think of memoir writing with the writer as a kind of archeologist both in terms of their own memories and feelings but also of the people they write about and the past they are remembering. Memoir writing is, at once, incredibly personal but also aware of itself as a constructed narrative.”
Justin Rogers is a resident of Kerrville who got his BA in English from Schreiner University and just returned from New Mexico where he finished his Masters in English at New Mexico Highlands University. He is currently pursuing his doctoral degree in English at Texas A&M. He has taught writing workshops before at HCAF.
The workshop spans four weeks: July 23rd, 30th, and August 6th, and 13th at the Hill Country Arts Foundation inside the Duncan-McAshan Visual Arts Center. Tuition for the workshop is $130 for HCAF members and $150 for non-members. For more information, please call the HCAF Visual Arts Center at (830)-367-5120.”
