TEXAS COUNTRY SPOTLIGHT – Cody Johnson hit the rodeo circuit and made his first album during that time.

Much like one of his heroes — the late Chris LeDoux — Cody sold copies of his self financed cds from his pickup as he chased the elusive eight-second dream.

Broken bones and competition cost would eventually change Cody’s mind.

Cody then worked as a prison guard in Huntsville and played clubs on the weekends. The crowds grew and Cody pieced together a string of hits on the Texas Music Charts.

Now Johnson was able to pursue music full time. Cody put together his band, and earned a reputation with the audience for leaving it all on the stage.

Along the way, Johnson found his identity, captured it in song, and refused to have it compromised by his vocation or the temptations that go along with it.

Johnson built up a huge fan base with streams that multiply daily. “I didn’t even know what a stream was when we started this thing. Seriously,” said Cody.

Now is Cody Johnson’s time. After landing two releases in the Top 10 of Billboards Country Album Chart on his own CoJo label and selling 74,000 tickets for a single show to earn recognition as the only unsigned artist in history, then selling out NRG Stadium at Rodeo Houston, he finally agreed to sign with with a major label, Warner Music Nashville.

Cody had turned down several major deals before. “After ten years of being independent, it’s kind of hard to imagine signing to a label.” The kicker; Cody and his band will have complete control.

He will not become what the label wants him to be, and he will have all creative freedom. On the label side, they say it will help his songs get out to a national audience through singe promotions and air-play.

The first single, “On My Way To You,” is doing very well on the Texas and national charts.

The album, “Ain’t Nothin’ To It,” has reached over 25 million streams.

“On My Way To You” is the lead off single for his 7th album. The song begins with a sweet acoustic guitar riff. Sprinkle in a nice fiddle and steel sound to keep this song breathing. The chorus is strong and convincing.

Cody captures emotion on every line of this song. The song creates a relaxed romantic atmosphere with an energy that keeps the song flowing beautifully. Johnson’s vocal delivery is spot on with charisma that shines through the lyrics he delivers. “On My Way to You”  is a single you’ll want to add to your playlist.

It’s fun to watch Cody Johnson’s “next step” on a career that sets the sky as the limit. Enjoy.
