Hit-And-Run Suspect Arrested In Dallas: Hits Pedestrian, Vehicle, Police Horse

Dallas police have arrested a driver of a pick-up truck accused of a hit-and-run during which officers said he struck a pedestrian, a vehicle, and clipped a police horse Sunday morning.

The suspect was identified as Adonis Hartfield, 25. He was driving a pick–up truck erratically at a high–rate speed along the 2600 block of Elm Street at the time of the incident.

According to Dallas police, Hartfield continued driving and was only forced to stop when two wheels came off his truck 1400 block of Ross Avenue. He was immediately taken into custody together with a female passenger who the police said is only considered a witness.

The first crash happened at around 1.30 in the morning. The suspect first slammed another car, but he kept driving and hit a pedestrian, then the police horse. Several officers also had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit, Fox News reported.

Police said that the pedestrian was immediately taken to the hospital but in a critical condition while the two people in the other vehicle and the police horse were not injured.

Witnesses who were in Deep Ellum said that they didn’t even have time to react to the incident. A video also showed people scattered for safety.

Shukri Abdul-Walee, who works in Deep Elum, said: “What I would like to see more is people aware of their surroundings and recognize that we are out here to have fun, but we have to be conscious that everyone is trying to get home safely at night.”

Hartfied has been charged with intoxication assault with a vehicle-serious bodily injury, accident involving serious bodily injury, accident investigation/damage to vehicle, possession of marijuana, and a traffic violation.
