DEL RIO – The bodies of two men were pulled out of the Rio Grande River on Friday in a three hour time span, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
While conducting marine operations, U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Eagle Pass Station reportedly found one body near Eagle Pass Bridge No. 1 and the second body was found less than a half-mile upriver, stated CBP.
“The recovery of the deceased is a grim task that Border Patrol agents too often carry out,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Raul L. Ortiz. “Attempting to cross the Rio Grande is dangerous even under the best of conditions and many times it ends in tragedy.”
Once both bodies were recovered, they were taken into custody by local authorities.
CBP added that there have been 17 deaths reported within the Del Rio Sector since the beginning of Fiscal Year 2019.
