Hit-and-run Sunday night, man and dog both killed

AMARILLO – Police are currently searching for any information and those involved in a fatal hit-and-run that took place Sunday, May 12th, around 11:35 p.m. According to police, the victim was out walking his dog in the 1000 block of NE 15th Street when supposedly struck by a vehicle.

When officers arrived on the scene, it was discovered that the victim was not hit by one vehicle, seemingly by two vehicles, both left the accident before police arrived. The victim’s dog was also hit at the accident scene.

The victim was a 61-year-old male, both the man and his dog were pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy has been ordered by Justice of the Peace Robert Taylor, and the Amarillo Police Department’s Traffic Investigation Squad is currently investigating the accident.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released, pending notification of the victim’s next of kin.
