PRESIDIO – Between Thursday and Sunday, close to 250 illegal aliens were arrested by U.S. Border Patrol agents at the Presidio Station, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
CBP stated that 56 individuals were arrested on Thursday at approximately 11:30 p.m. while making an attempt to enter the U.S. illegally within the Presidio city limits.
U.S. Border Patrol agents also reportedly arrested 19 illegal individuals on Friday morning and a total of 176 illegal immigrants were arrested on between Saturday and Sunday.
The 251 individuals who were arrested were charged and processed in accordance with immigration laws.
Big Bend Sector Chief Patrol Agent Matthew Hudak said, “The significant number of arrests by Presidio Station agents is evidence that the dramatic increase in illegal entries along the southern border is impacting us locally.” Chief Hudak added, “The volume of arrests challenges our ability to effectively patrol the border while our agents are consumed by caring for persons in our custody. I commend our agents for their professionalism and dedication in the face of these challenges.”
The illegal aliens were said by CBP to be citizens from El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala.
CBP added that the Big Bend Sector, which contains 517 miles of the southwest border, has seen over 648 illegal alien arrests in the first 13 days of May.
