COMAL COUNTY – An inmate in the custody of Comal County Adult Probation escaped on Wednesday while he was attending Drug Rehabilitation Counseling at an off-site facility, stated the Comal County Sheriff’s Office.

On May 8 at approximately 3:00 p.m., the inmate, identified as Christopher Boyd Sanders, 40, allegedly stole an Adult Probation van and fled the scene, described CCSO.

It was added by law enforcement that the sheriff’s office immediately released the information and began a search to find the escaped inmate.

The search was executed in part by the Comal County Sheriff’s Office, New Braunfels Police Department, Garden Ridge Police Department, US Marshal Lone State Fugitive Task Force, Comal County Constables, and the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Later, the vehicle that was allegedly stolen by Sanders was found unoccupied on FM 2252 between Old Nacogdoches Road and IH 35.

Upon a drone search by the Comal County Sheriff’s Office, a DPS aircraft, and an SAPD helicopter, Sanders was discovered in a field around 4:00 p.m. in the area where the vehicle was discovered earlier, according to the Comal County Sheriff’s Office.

Sanders was taken into custody and returned to the Comal County Jail. The escaped inmate faces charges of Escape and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.
