UPDATE – The Texas Department of Public Safety reported additional details regarding the trooper-involved shooting that took place yesterday evening.
A trooper, who has been with DPS for five years, initiated a traffic stop on a man who was driving a Chevy Impala traveling eastbound on I-10. DPS stated that the man stopped and fled on foot across the highway into the woods.
DPS continued to say that the trooper pursued the individual and when he failed to follow the trooper’s instructions, a fight broke out with the trooper.
During the altercation, DPS said that the trooper was forced to fire his weapon, which hit the driver, who died at the scene.
A woman was also with the man inside the vehicle. She also fled the scene but authorities were able to catch her near mile marker 545 on I-10.
According to DPS, the trooper who shot the individual will be placed on administrative duty.
An investigation of this incident is currently ongoing by the Texas Rangers and additional details will be released as they are learned.
BOERNE, Texas – Several news agencies across the San Antonio region are reporting a DPS-involved shooting that took place Thursday afternoon.
The shooting occurred near West Fabra Lane on near the IH-10 access road, according to the Boerne Police Department.
KENS 5 shot a video with a helicopter over the scene.
KSAT 12 was able to get some video on the ground after the shooting.
