AUSTIN – It was reported that hundreds of people witnessed a veteran commit suicide in an Austin Veterans Affairs clinic on Wednesday afternoon.
The clinic was evacuated immediately so authorities could investigate but it was reopened on Thursday.
VA police previously performed random bag checks but have announced that they will now check every bag as the clinic doesn’t have metal detectors.
According to officials, Texas veterans are twice as likely to take their own lives than the general population.
If you or anyone you know is having suicidal thoughts, call the Nation Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255.
