Man hit and killed on sidewalk, driver tested for intoxicants, under investigation



SAN ANTONIO – Wednesday, March 13th, 2019 on the city’s West Side, a man was hit and killed while walking on the sidewalk by a woman driving her vehicle.

According to police, the driver was traveling down the 800 block of Enrique M. Barrerra Parkway when she hit the pedestrian from behind and struck a utility pole.

The man was stuck underneath the vehicle and dragged between 150 to 200 feet between Southwest 38th and 39th streets.

The San Antonio Police Department’s Traffic Investigations Division are investigating that factors such as intoxication or speed were at play in the crash.

According to officials, the driver was taken to University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

She is currently under investigation for intoxication manslaughter at this time. Police stated that a mandatory blood draw was arranged.

The driver’s and victim’s identities have yet to be identified.
