DECATUR – The 3-year-old that was found unresponsive in the bathtub at her Decatur home on Thursday has died, according to authorities.
The girl, Eve Blankenfeld, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, 4 days after her mother found her unresponsive in the bathtub.
Police reported that they responded to a call at around 11:50 a.m. on March 4 from a woman stating that she discovered her daughter in the bathtub, underwater at the home on N. Business 287.
Decatur Police Rex Hoskins told Star-Telegram, “The mother put her child in the bathtub and then walked into another room to tend to two other kids. She came back and found the child face-down in the bathtub.”
According to authorities, the mother called 9-1-1, pulled out the daughter from the tub, and began performing CPR while being instructed by a dispatcher.
The mother said that she has only been away from her daughter for a few minutes before finding her.
Officer Hoskins described the incident as “a tragic accident.”
Blankenfeld was transported to a Decatur hospital where she was later taken to a Fort Worth hospital.
The Tarrant County medical examiner will perform an autopsy on Blankenfeld to determine her cause of death.
Authorities have notified Child Protective Services.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the Blankenfeld family with the unexpected funeral costs.
