Failed vehicle inspection leads man to open fire at auto shop owner

EL PASO – A man that was angry after his vehicle failed a state inspection allegedly shot an auto shop owner on Monday.



The suspect, named as Arturo Garcia Medina, 60, from West Texas, arrived at the auto shop in El Paso on Monday and authorities said he began to argue with the owner when he received the inspection results.

Then, Medina was said to have pulled a weapon on the 52-year-old owner and shot her in the abdomen.



The owner was taken to the hospital in critical condition. An update on their current condition has not been released.

Along with the owner being shot, an employee was also grazed by gunfire, said law enforcement.

Medina was arrested by police and taken to the El Paso County jail. He has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
