SAN ANTONIO, Texas (TexasBreaking.com) – An officer with the San Antonio Police Department is recovering after allegedly being shot by a man in his “late-teens” early Tuesday morning after a vehicle pursuit.
The officer, identified as Drew Matthewson, was in pursuit of a stolen vehicle around 1:30 a.m. when the suspect crashed into a gate and fled the scene through an apartment complex in the 5000 block of Hamilton Wolfe Road, according to San Antonio Police Chief William McManus.
The suspect allegedly shot at the pursuing officer in his upper chest/shoulder area after he was able to hide behind a wall.
The officer reportedly fired back at the suspect and both were taken to University Hospital.
Matthewson was said to be released on Tuesday morning at approximately 9:00 a.m.
The unidentified suspect was in critical condition as of Tuesday afternoon. SAPD said that he would be arrested and charged with attempted capital murder.
McManus believes that there is some suspicion that the suspect could be working with a larger group in the area.
No additional information has been released at this time.
