A man by the name of Benito Cantu, 42, passed away on Sunday, September 2, after an apparent drowning accident, according to the Boerne Police Department.

The Boerne PD reports that officers were dispatched to Boerne Lake at 6:27 PM for reports of a missing kayaker. The last time Cantu was seen by friends or family was around 3:30 PM. He was said to be kayaking in the Lake Country Homeowners Park area.

A search crew including the Boerne Police Department, the Boerne Fire Department, and the Texas Game Wardens searched for Cantu and around 8 PM, Cantu’s kayak was found floating in the water along with some of his personal items.

The search had to be postponed due to the developing weather conditions and was resumed this morning. It was said that around 11 AM, Cantu’s body was recovered about 100 years from the Point area of the lake.

The Boerne PD adds that at this time, his death appears to be due to an accidental drowning. Cantu was not wearing a life jacket.
