During the early hours of April 27, Thomas Lyn Barringer allegedly beat Andrew Massey, of Kerrville, in the face with a shovel handle while Massey was sleeping in Montgomery County, TX.

Massey reportedly succumbed to his injuries on Friday with his mother by his bedside after being in the hospital for a week.

As of yet, no charges have been filed against Barringer, who was taken into custody after being found at a Holiday Inn property on the banks of Lake Conroe.

According to court records, on April 2, Barringer had been released from a three-year prison sentence just weeks prior to the attack. He was last arrested after breaking into a home and stealing a car. He ran into the woods when police tried to stop him.

Authorities have not released any information about a possible motive for the attack.

The video below is of Andrew Massey’s mother singing to him in the hospital, as posted on Facebook by Elisha Griffin.
