A 29-year-old Ingram Tom Moore graduate, Cody David Watters, sadly lost his life on Monday in San Antonio. Cody Watters was riding his motorcycle with his helmet on and was hit by a turning car. Cody was transported to University Hospital in San Antonio where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Cody’s friends on Facebook poured out their hearts to him in posts saying, “He had a smile that would light up a room and make you feel so warm and welcome. He was an awesome brother, son, and uncle! Cody was the only friend of mine to still call me every single birthday and holiday. He was such an intentional friend. Cody was caring, kind, hilarious, and had a determined spirit.”
“My buddy Cody lost his life today because a driver wasn’t paying attention and hit him while he was riding his motorcycle. Please stay off your phone while driving and watch for motorcycles. Brother words cannot describe the pain I am feeling.”
“Cody never shied away from that expansion of his ability. We don’t have the capacity to control even the smallest most personal functions of our own body. The heart beats, & thoughts are conjured by some force within. We do have the ability to choose how we live, & react. I find a beautiful peace knowing that Cody chose to live bravely, & do what he loved despite the potential dangers. We’re all going to miss you buddy!”
A few of Cody’s friends are honoring him on April 7th by hosting a memorial ride, Cody Watters First Annual Memorial Ride. He favored the number 47 so they thought it fitting to have the event on 4/7.
We have posted about motorcycle safety before and we will say it again, please be aware of motorcyclists driving around you. Motorcycles are smaller and harder to see than the rest of the cars on the road. Always assume there could be one around you when planning to turn or change lanes and do a triple check to be sure you aren’t about to cause the next fatal accident. Too many people, including our town’s young residents, are dying from motorists not being more aware of their surroundings when driving their vehicles. Please watch the road for motorcyclists!
Our thoughts and prayers are with Cody Watters’ family and friends during this difficult time.
