Johnny Manziel Appears on Good Morning America. Reveals Bi-Polar Disorder

Love him or hate him… Most agree that he was still the best quarterback to ever come out of Kerrville. Johnny Football opened up about his downfall and his hopeful comeback this morning.

Johnny Manziel appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America this morning. The former Tivy and Texas A&M quarterback discussed his downfall and his hopeful comeback.

The 25-year-old quarterback, once given the name “Rocket Man”, by local sports gurus Mark Keller and Walter Reed, spoke to ABC News’ T.J. Holmes about the struggles he’s gone through. He says he has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

“I am taking medication for bipolar, and I am working to try to make sure I don’t fall back into any type of depression, because I know where that leads me and I know how slippery a slope that is for me,” he said.

“At the end of the day, I can’t help that my wires are a little bit differently crossed than yours,” Manziel added. “I can’t help my mental makeup or the way that I was created.”

Manziel also said that he believes those closest to him – his fiancee, his parents – would agree that they’ve seen a “drastic” change in his behavior. However, he admits that he needs to make it sustainable.

“I am coming back from a huge downfall,” Manziel admitted. “I don’t know what kind of comeback it will be, but I know I want to get back on a football field, to what brought me so much joy in my life.”

Manziel said the ultimate goal is to get back into the NFL. He had been linked to the Canadian Football League, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. There has also been chatter of him joining the XFL, but that league is years away from getting going.
