A teenager who opened fire at his high school in Dallas and injured four people has been taken into custody reports ABC News. On Wednesday, Timothy George Simpkins, an 18-year-old boy, who was involved in a fight at the Timberview High School, opened fire and fled after he found that four had been hurt in the shooting.
The Arlington Police Department took him into custody, and he has been booked in the Arlington jail on three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is now held on $75,000 bail, said a police tweet in connection with the incident.
Four Injured in Shooting Incident
Three of the four persons injured are students. The shooting left one person in a critical condition while another was being treated for minor bruises. The injured third person was sent off after being administered first aid, while the fourth was in good condition though he was caught in the firing. He is expected to be released from hospital care later today.
It added that the Timberview High School is geographically located at Arlington but belongs to the school district in neighboring Mansfield. The fight is believed to have begun in a classroom but went out of control leading to the shooting.
The school authorities, in the meantime, made a public announcement that said the firing incident was not a random act of violence and that the incident did not mean that somebody was unleashing an attack on the school.
Family Says Lad Opened Fire to Protect Himself
Going by an explanation given out by Timothy George Simpkins’s family members, the boy was bullied and robbed at least twice at school, which could have led him to take such a decision. Though the family did not justify what he had done, they hastily added that Simpkins was trying to protect himself.
It is still not clear as to how the 18-year-old lad had procured a gun. The Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, with assistance from local police from nearby jurisdictions, is being probed into the matter.
