Why Are People Hoping For A Fourth Stimulus Check?

There is no indication that the Biden administration is looking into releasing a fourth stimulus check, reports Yahoo News. However, many lawmakers are pushing for the fourth round of stimulus checks that would be recurring until the pandemic ends.

The Reason Behind The Push

The federal government has been giving financial assistance to most Americans in the past months, but many remain in financial distress. One of the main reasons is the spread of the Delta variant because many remain unemployed and cannot pay for their household expenses. Accordingly, the unemployment rate in the country is at 5.2 percent, which is way higher than the pre-pandemic rate of 3.5. Ben May, director of global macro research at Oxford Economics, shared, “Uncertainty and hesitancy may ultimately lead to a more slow-burning recovery from here than our baseline assumes.”

Also, the federal unemployment benefits expired early in September, meaning more people are struggling to pay for their expenses.

Because of the struggles, a Change.org petition asked lawmakers to pass legislation for a recurring $2,000 monthly payment. Twenty-one Democratic senators signed a March 30 letter addressed to Joe Biden to support this petition. Aside from Democratic lawmakers, top economists also called for more direct aid to Americans. More than 150 economists signed a letter last year encouraging a recurring immediate stimulus payment lasting until the economy recovers.

What Is The Biden Administration’s Focus

For now, the Biden administration is focused on advancing its infrastructure plans. The administration hopes to rebuild aging schools, roads, and airports and invest in projects that would provide affordable housing and broadband.

There has been no talk regarding the fourth stimulus check.

Programs You Can Try Getting Financial Assistance From

There are still other programs that you can ask for financial assistance from. One of which is the $47 billion the government has set aside for rent relief. Next is to check the local stimulus checks being distributed in your state. For example, in California, eligible citizens can get up to $1,000.

If you are in the food industry, you may also receive up to $600 from the federal government. Check the details regarding the Farm and Food Worker Relief Grant Program for this.
