Many Trump Supporters In Favor Of Splitting The Country Into Two

Of the voters surveyed, 52 percent of the Trump voters said they favor Blue and Red states “seceding from the union to form their own separate country.”

The University of Virginia (UVA) Center for Politics conducted a poll among the supporters of former President Donald Trump and now-president Joe Biden. From the poll, most of Trump’s supporters favor splitting the United States into two, reports Business Insider.

The Poll

The poll from the UVA had a sample population of 2,012 voters. Half are those who voted for Trump, and the other half are those who voted for Biden. They were surveyed in late July to understand the growing split between Democratic and Republican Parties.

Of the voters surveyed, 52 percent of the Trump voters said they favor Blue and Red states “seceding from the union to form their own separate country.” The same question was asked to the Biden voters, and 41 percent of them answered similarly.

This is not the first time such an idea was floated. Texas GOP chair Allen West sounded off the idea after the Supreme Court rejected a lawsuit spearheaded by the Texas attorney general regarding the overturning of the 2020 presidential election results. West noted in his comment, “Perhaps law-abiding states should bond together and form a Union of states that will abide by the constitution.”

The Other Results

From the same poll, Republicans and Democrats also said they heavily distrust one another. Eighty percent or more of the respondents from each party said that the other side presents a clear and present danger to American democracy. Further, another 80 percent or more of the respondents said they are worried they or someone close to them will experience personal loss or suffering because of the opposing party’s policies.

Of the Trump voters, 83 percent also said that society needs to stop the many “radical” and “immoral people trying to ruin things” for the United States and that the country needs a powerful leader to destroy such radical and immoral currents.
