A woman was killed in a crash early Sunday, and the three drivers involved are all suspected of being intoxicated at the time of the incident, officials said.
It all started when a vehicle spun out of control after colliding with another car and became disabled in the middle of the northbound lanes of the I-45 North Freeway near West Road.
According to authorities, the victim, who was believed to be a passenger in one of the vehicles, had exited the vehicle when she was hit by a Mazda.
Houston police officials evaluated all three drivers and determined that they were inebriated at the time of the incident.
“We’re going to charge all three drivers with DWI right now,” said Sean Teare, Chief of Vehicular Crimes for the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
“Then, over the next few days or weeks, we’ll have the crash reconstruction unit piece everything together and tell us exactly what happened. Because, at the end of the day, this woman is no longer alive. This woman deserves to have the person most responsible for her death brought accountable,” he added.
Two Of Three Drivers Sent To Hospitals With Non-Life-Threatening Injuries
There was no word on the name of the victim or the drivers charged in connection with the crashes.
The northbound lanes of the North Freeway remained closed Sunday morning as investigators tried to clean the incident and determine what caused it.
Yes, you may have heard signs from the Harris County District Attorney’s Office indicating that charges may be, and most likely will be, escalated because this woman died in this incident. The other drivers were all taken to the hospital. The outgoing lanes of the North Freeway at the West Road exits were still closed, thus traffic was being redirected onto the freer roadways. And it was generating a major backup here this morning.
