Man, 23, Dies After Being Shot By Girlfriend In North Harris County: Deputies

A 23-year-old man was shot dead by his girlfriend after an argument in north Harris County. Deputies are investigating the incident.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as Jailene Marie Hernandez, 24. Officers said that Hernandez shot his 23-year-old boyfriend, Alexis Carbajal Tavera, after an argument became physical, ABC 13 reported.

Deputies said that during the fight, Hernandez got the handgun from a bedroom and fired one time, instantly killing Tavera.

The shooting incident happened at 4:45 in the morning in the 1600 block of Lone Oak Road, an area of West Little York and Hardy Toll Road, according to deputies.

When officials arrived at the scene, Tavera was found and pronounced dead at the scene.

“The male and his girlfriend, who both live at the residence, got into a verbal argument, which escalated, maybe to a physical altercation,” Sgt. Greg Pinkins said. “At some point, a weapon was produced. The female shot the male.”

Hernandez has been arrested and ben charged with murder and is currently at the Harris County Jail. The gun used was recovered at the scene.

Officials said that Hernandez is cooperative with the investigators.

“She’s kind of emotional, but we do plan to talk to her,” Pinkins said. “She’s being very cooperative at this time.”

Officials are not yet sure if the shooting incident was caused by domestic violence or whether there were other calls to the home. They also confirmed that three people were inside the home when the incident happened. One male friend of Tavera and two female friends of Hernandez.
