A Southern California mom of five, including a newborn, died from COVID-19. She was a nurse and had been caring for patients since the beginning of the pandemic. Her husband, on the other hand, remains in the hospital as he also contracted the virus.
The family of the nurse, identified as Davy Macias, said that her mother and sister went to see her one last time on her death bed. Her sister, Vandana Serey, said, “That’s an image that’s going to stay with me.” Serey added that Macias touched everybody’s life and was an advocate for all her patients. Serey continued, “It’s always for the benefit of the patient and the babies. She’s a great and an amazing woman.”
Both Davy and her husband, Daniel, were taken to the ICU earlier in August. It is believed that they contracted the virus while they were on vacation. Davy was pregnant when she was hospitalized. When it was necessary to intubate her, the doctors had to deliver her baby, although she was only seven months.
As for Daniel, he remains in critical condition. Davy’s brother, Vong, has nothing but good words for Daniel, a middle school teacher. Vong shared, “He’s the type that would give you the shirt off his back if you were cold, that’s the type of person he is. These two people…they are wonderful people.”
Before Davy’s death, she sent a message to Serey encouraging those in their family who are not yet vaccinated to get the shot. It is unclear, however, if Davy and Daniel were vaccinated.
The oldest child of the couple is only seven years old. The second is five, the third is three, and the fourth is two. The families of the couple are hoping Daniel will recover.
They started a GoFundMe page to help support the children of the family. They are also asking for food, clothing, and other physical donations aside from money. All of which will go to Davy and Daniel’s children. As of writing, they were able to raise almost all of the $125,000 goal. The total amount of donations is $117,000.
