Dagny Benedict Obituary: 16-Year-Old Owasso Student is No More

The untimely death of 16-year-old Dagny Benedict, a high school student, has left the community of Owasso, Oklahoma, reeling from an unfathomable loss. On February 8, 2024, Dagny departed from this life, leaving her friends, family, and the community stunned.

Dagny Benedict Obituary:

On February 8, a 16-year-old student at Owasso High School passed away. The police are investigating the cause of death. Sue Benedict verified her kid Dagny Benedict’s identity as the victim on February 15.

The youngster’s mom phoned the Owasso Police Department at around 3 p.m. on February 7 and took the teenager to Bailey Medical Center. According to police, the parents informed them their child had been involved in a fight at school when the cops arrived.

According to OPD, they were not informed of any fight until the teen’s mom told them. The parent at the hospital provided facts about the event to a school resource officer.

Owasso Public Schools Statement:

The student was sent back to the hospital on February 8 and died there, according to the OPD. A woman claiming to be the mother of the victim’s closest friend gave 2 News the information on the fight. She and I chatted on February 9. “I think complications from brain trauma, head trauma, is what caused it,” she stated.

The woman withheld the victim’s identity, although she identified as a sophomore. She claimed that once they were at ease, the victim was gregarious, devoted, and unafraid to speak her mind. Three older females were allegedly beating the mother and her kid in the girl’s restroom.

“I know at one point, one of the girls was pretty much constantly smacking her head across the floor,” she stated.

She claimed that’s when a teacher entered and broke things up. “She couldn’t walk to the nurses’ unit on her own, and staff didn’t call the ambulance, which amazes me,” she continued.

The lady informed 2 News that following the altercation, the girl was taken to the hospital by her primary caregiver, the victim’s grandmother. She claimed that while the victim was freed that evening, he was returned the following day and passed away.

Multiple times, 2 News made contact with Owasso Public Schools. They could only say they would not comment since the police were still investigating the matter. For more information, we also phoned the Owasso police, but they informed us that they were entirely focused on the investigation.

Authorities stated that they are still unsure of whether the teen’s death was caused by a different medical condition or by the fight. Before providing more details, OPD stated that they were awaiting medical results.

Regarding the kid’s passing, Owasso Public Schools issued the following statement: “District administrators have been informed of the death of an Owasso High School student by the Owasso Police Department. The reason for the death and the student’s identity are still under wraps. We won’t be able to provide any further information at this time because the police investigation is still ongoing. The Owasso Police Department should be contacted with any more questions.”

“The district will have additional counselors at the school to support students and staff commencing on Friday.”
On February 15, Benedict’s funeral ceremony occurred at the Mowery Funeral Ceremony Chapel. Ridgelawn Cemetery in Collinsville is where she will ultimately lie.

According to Sue Benedict, Dagny loved animals, particularly her cat Zeus. Her relatives said Dagny enjoyed cooking and frequently created her dishes. Dagny excelled academically as well, earning consecutive As.

At Dagny’s burial, mother, Sue Benedict, remarked, “She was tough but a great kid.” “I loved Dagny so much.” Donations honoring Dagny Benedict can be sent to this GoFundMe page or Bikers Against Child Abuse.
