Who is Jan Graham?
Janet Ann Graham was born in 1949 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was a Utah lawyer who held the position of State Attorney General from 1993 until 2001. Aside from candidates for Lieutenant Governor paired with male candidates, she was the only woman ever elected to statewide office in Utah. She was also the most recently elected Democrat to a statewide office.
1980, she began working with Jones, Waldo, Holbrook, and McDonough. By 1985, she had become a partner and the first woman to join the Board of Directors. She helped organize the Women Lawyers of Utah and was one of the first four women to join the Alta Club. She ran for Attorney General in 1992 while still pregnant with her first child. At the end of her second term, the Deseret News ranked Jan Graham as one of two women among Utah’s most influential people. She is not just the only woman elected independently to statewide office in Utah but also the state’s most recent Democrat.
