Richard Berdnik Cause of Death and Obituary

Authorities in Clifton have reported that Sheriff Richard Berdnik, who was in his midsixties, died in an apparent suicide at Toros Restaurant on Tuesday afternoon. On Tuesday night, bunting—a sign of mourning—was seen being hung outside the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office in Wayne. Before becoming the county sheriff in 2011, Berdnik worked for the Clifton Police Department for an impressive 28 years.

Governor Phil Murphy of New Jersey expressed his profound sorrow at learning of the untimely death of Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik. Initially hired as a Clifton police officer, Sheriff Berdnik spent more than forty years serving the people of New Jersey. He then served five terms as the 49th Sheriff of Passaic County.

Governor Murphy emphasized Berdnik’s commitment to gaining the confidence of the people living in Passaic County and his initiatives to combat crime, update the Sheriff’s Office, and uphold the highest standards of law enforcement performance.

We consider ourselves lucky to have had Sheriff Berdnik as a close friend, Tammy and me. He will be much missed, as well as his capable leadership. The entire Passaic County Sheriff’s Office staff, Sheriff Berdnik’s wife, Monica, and their four adult children are in our thoughts and prayers.

Who Was Richard Berdnik Wife?

Richard H. Berdnik, the late Sheriff of Passaic County, married Monica Berdnik. Following the startling revelation that Berdnik had shot and killed himself in a public place—a restaurant—he has been in the headlines.

That has propelled him to the top of the trends and sparked curiosity about his background. Four children were born to Sheriff Richard Berdnik and his wife, Monica Berdnik.

Registered nurses who care for kids from infancy through adolescence are known as pediatric nurses. According to Rasmussen University, they must thoroughly understand child growth and development since diseases and ailments that affect children frequently manifest and are treated differently from those that affect adults.

Pediatric nurses typically develop close relationships with their patients differently than adult patients since their kids are much younger. This might be joking around, acting goofy, playing games, or holding their hand during complex procedures. According to Brooke Cobb, a nursing lecturer at Rasmussen University, “Pediatric nurses have a greater influence on their patient’s future—from growth and development to health promotion and practices.”

After thirty years of marriage, Monica Berdnik and Richard had four grown children. Although her age is not stated, it is most likely in her 60s.

Kevin, one of their kids, was first employed by the Clifton Police Department in 2017 but departed in 2022 to join the Rockaway Police Department. When her husband, Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik, committed suicide, Monica Berdnik made headlines.

Berdnik passed away at the Hazel Street Turkish restaurant Toros. The sources claimed that shortly after Berdnik entered the restroom at Toros on Hazel Street on Tuesday, eatery patrons heard a gunshot.

Over the years, Monica Berdnik remained Sheriff Richard’s devoted and faithful spouse as they raised a wonderful family. She and her kids will undoubtedly be rudely awakened by his death, and we wish them the best at this trying time.

Monica Berdnik was employed at St. Joseph’s University Medical Centre, an academic tertiary care medical center and state-designated trauma center on the Paterson campus. It routinely accepts referrals of challenging or uncommon cases from other hospitals and doctors and carries out complicated and routine procedures.

The Medical Center provides all the standard specialty and subspecialty services, such as internal medicine, neurology, cancer, orthopedics/spine, mental health, cardiology, emergency/trauma, ambulatory care, women’s health, imaging, and pediatrics.

Memorials:

Tributes to Sheriff Berdnik, whose record left people in awe of him, have been flooding in.

  • Keith Kazmark, a former mayor of Woodland Park, expressed shock at Berdnik’s passing. According to Kazmark, Rich always had a carefree attitude, genuinely cared about law enforcement, and was courteous and considerate. He had such a calm disposition. “We never truly know how people feel inside, what is going on that could tragically impact them,” is something that, in my opinion, makes this more challenging to fathom. It puts things into perspective and demonstrates the need for even more kindness and concern for one another,” Kazmark continued. “We lost a good man and a great sheriff.”
  • Retired Clifton police officer Bill Gibson, a councilman representing the city, claimed to have worked with Berdnik for many years. Upon hearing of his passing, Gibson exclaimed, “What? Oh no. He was my associate. We were, for crying out loud, brothers. I had to leave.
  • Even though Berdnik is a Democrat and Anzaldi is a Republican, the former mayor of Clifton expressed a unique affection for the Democrat.
“It’s unimaginable,” Anzaldi remarked. “Richie was a guy like myself, the salt of the soil. I’m sorry about his family.
