A 43-year-old man is facing accusations of aiming a gun at a 6-year-old boy who had mistakenly left a Halloween goody bag at the wrong address over the weekend.
As per a press release from the Nassau County Police Department, on Saturday, October 28, around 7:25 p.m., a 42-year-old mother drove her three children and her nephew to 138 Rockcrest Road to deliver a Halloween treat bag to her daughter’s friend’s house. At the residence, her 10-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son apparently approached the front door, rang the doorbell, and placed the candy-filled goody bag on the porch.
The family drove a short distance away when the daughter realized that they had left the treats at the wrong house. They promptly returned to 138 Rockcrest Road to retrieve the goody bag. Upon their return, as the 6-year-old boy approached the front door, Michael Wen reportedly emerged from the house and allegedly pointed a black handgun at the young child’s head.
According to court documents obtained by WABC-TV, the 6-year-old boy stated that Wen used profanity to instruct them to vacate his property. Wen was apprehended by the police without any resistance and is facing charges of second-degree menacing and endangering the welfare of a child.
Wen allegedly told the police, “I just intended to frighten them.” He was arraigned on Sunday, October 29, and pleaded not guilty. WABC reports that Wen is scheduled to undergo a court-ordered mental health evaluation and will be attending anger management classes. Wen is set to make another appearance in court on November 13.
