Texas Border Sheriffs Honored by Governor Greg Abbott

Gov. Greg Abbott appreciated the Texas border Sheriff’s efforts and contribution to the safety of the Texans. From stepping up to protect the nation from the record number of illegal immigrants, lethal weapons, and deadly drugs like fentanyl across the Texas border.

Governor Abbott emphasized that being a Sheriff is a higher calling. He also highlighted the proposed legislation that would provide a whopping $350 million to help fund rural sheriff operations for public safety to counties that participated in Operation Lone Star.

The Governor also mentioned the One Pill Kills Summit earlier this month in Austin, where he announced a whopping $10 million public awareness initiative to educate Texas on the dangers of fentanyl drugs and a statewide distribution of life-saving Narcan to 254 Texas county sheriffs to combat the growing fentanyl crisis impacting Texas and the United States.

The Texas Border Sheriff’s Coalition and the Southwestern Border Sheriff’s Coalition were formed to aid sheriffs responsible for enforcing laws and protecting lives within 25 miles of the United States of America and the Republic of Mexico border region.

Governor Greg Abbott’s Action

Governor Abbott has taken extraordinary action to secure the Texas border in the wake of the federal government’s inaction, including launching Operation Lone Star, hiring Texas’ first-ever Border Czar, designating Mexican drug cartels as terrorist organizations, and signing laws to enhance penalties for the manufacturing and distribution of fentanyl and cracking down on human trafficking.

The Governor’s efforts to secure the border have not gone unnoticed, and the Texas Border Sheriff’s Coalition and the Southwestern Border Sheriff’s Coalition have played an important role in this mission. They have been on the front lines of protecting Texans from the dangers of illegal immigration and the drug epidemic that has plagued our country.

In conclusion, the work of Texas Border Sheriffs cannot be overstated. Governor Abbott’s recognition of their contributions to public safety is well-deserved, and his continued efforts to secure the border are commendable. As the Governor stated, serving as a sheriff is truly a higher calling, and we owe a debt of gratitude to those who have answered that call to protect our communities and our country.
