Oregon Shooting Involves State Police Trooper

The Oregon shooting involved a State Police trooper who exchanged gunfire with a man who was holding the driver of a semitrailer at gunpoint. The shooting happened Monday morning along Interstate 5 in Salem.

The shooting left the suspect dead, authorities said. At about 8:45 am, State Police Trooper Andrew Tuttle stopped to help the driver of the disabled semitrailer.

When Tuttle saw the gunman, the suspect immediately began shooting at him, the Salem Police Department said in a news release.

Tuttle returned fire and caused the gunman to run into the tall grass which caused the Oregon shooting.  Authorities found him with gunshot injuries and they began to give him medical assistance but he died at the scene, ABC News reported.

The suspect in the Oregon shooting was identified by the police as Felipe Amezcua Manzo, 31. Police found a vehicle connected with Manzano, and officers did not disclose if they found anything inside the car which is relevant to the shooting.

Police said Tuttle suffered a minor injury. He is presently on administrative leave, which is expected in cases of police using deadly force.
