Texas GOP Bill Against Abortion
In Texas, abortion has been prohibited at almost any stage of pregnancy, with no exceptions in cases of rape or incest, since August 2022. This is just the latest attempt by Texas lawmakers to make it harder for people to access safe abortions, News Republic reported.
Furthermore, last week, another Republican lawmaker introduced a Texas GOP bill that would require internet providers in the state to block websites that sell or provide information on how to obtain abortion pills. These restrictions run counter to what Texans actually want, with a study by the Public Religion Research Institute showing that 57% of state residents think abortion should be legal in all or most cases.
Through the latest Texas GOP bill, restricting access to abortion drugs will hit people of color and lower-income people the hardest. Medication abortions, which consist of taking the drugs mifepristone and misoprostol, make up more than half of all abortions in the United States, according to the Guttmacher Institute.
