Walmart to Close 8 Stores, 2 Pickup Locations Across the US

Walmart announced the closure of eight of its shops in six states, along with the addition of two additional trial pickup locations in Illinois and Arkansas. Due to the businesses’ dire financial situation, closures are anticipated by the end of the year.

According to Walmart, affected employees are eligible to transfer to nearby locations. There will be a closure of two trial pickup locations. It includes the stores in Lincolnwood, Illinois, and Bentonville, Arkansas. Two more stores in Illinois will close, one in Homewood and the other in Plainfield.

Morfe stores in Washington DC, Florida, New Mexico, Oregon, and Wisconsin are scheduled to close by the end of the year. After determining that the affected locations had fallen short of financial projections, the retail giant made the decision.

Following Walmart’s announcement of the closure of two locations in Portland, Oregon.  A fresh batch of press headlines indicated that Walmart is closing its locations. The closing of the sites on March 24 will result in 580 job losses for the retail behemoth.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott aimed his criticism at Portland over the matter, saying the shutdown happens when communities refuse to follow the rule of law.

Ted Wheeler, mayor of Portland, claimed that numerous Texas stores had just closed. Retail theft, he claimed, is a widespread problem, and the sector is changing. Cody Bowman, a representative for Wheeler, said the company has not made any inquiries of the mayor’s office regarding a retail theft.

However, other significant retailers have requested that the city deal with shoplifting. A larger group of retailers has called for the police to investigate theft accusations more thoroughly and to prosecute alleged shoplifters.

Nike recently attempted to secure the reopening of a temporarily closed store by hiring off-duty cops.
