New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu Announce Support for Republican Nominee in 2024 Election But Not for Donald Trump

Chris Sununu, the governor of New Hampshire, made a prediction on Sunday that former President Donald Trump would not win the GOP nomination for president in 2024.

Trump is in the race, but Sununu, a Republican who has stated he is considering a run for president, said in an appearance on NBC News ‘Meet the Press’ that “he’s not going to be the nominee; it’s just not going to happen.”

In January, Sununu stated that he didn’t believe Trump could defeat President Joseph Biden in 2024. In a similar interview, he also claimed that the dictatorial attitude of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis wouldn’t work in his state.

But, Sununu asserted on ‘Meet the Press’ that if the election were to take place right now, DeSantis, who has not yet declared his candidacy for president, would triumph in New Hampshire. “I have no doubts about that,” he declared.

Sununu, who was chosen in November to serve a fourth two-year term, said last month that he had established the ‘Live Free or Die’ committee, a 501(c)(4) group through which politicians are allowed to raise an unlimited amount of funds. Such nonprofit political organizations are frequently used by potential presidential contenders to test the waters and assess support from contributors.

The governor of New Hampshire is thinking about running for office himself in 2024. He has previously stated that he wants to see the Republican Party return to its fundamental principles and move away from Trump’s extremism. He claimed, though, that he had vowed to back the ultimate GOP front-runner.

GOP candidates will have to take a loyalty oath committing to back the victorious nominee in order to participate in the primary debates, according to RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, as previously reported by CNN.

The Trump team responded to the news by telling CNN that “President Trump would support the GOP nominee because it will be him.”

Chris Sununu Predicts Ron DeSantis Would Win

The day after Trump attended the Conservative Political Action Conference in Maryland, gave the keynote address, and walked away with a straw poll of prospective 2024 candidates, Sununu gave his opinion of the campaign. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who has yet to formally declare his anticipated candidacy, came in second with 20% of the vote.

Perry Johnson, a businessman from Michigan, was third with 5%, Nikki Haley, a former US ambassador to the UN, was fourth with 3%, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy was fifth with 1%.

Sununu rejected the poll, claiming that if the New Hampshire Republican primary were held right now, DeSantis would win. Sununu was questioned regarding his own plans for the presidency in 2024 after being selected to spend a fourth two-year term in office in November. He said in response that he wasn’t now focused on the decision.
