Portuguese Authorities Detained Brazilian Man
Portuguese authorities apprehended a Brazilian man, Begoleã Mendes Fernandes, 26, while carrying a suitcase containing pieces of meat. The police have launched an investigation into the origin of the meat, but have refused to comment on allegations of cannibalism.
The Portuguese authorities initially detained him on suspicion of carrying forged documents before discovering his connection to the Dutch murder case. Fernandes was wanted by Dutch authorities in connection with the murder of 21-year-old Alan Lopes, Fox News reported. The victim was found dead in his home in Amsterdam, and the police described his death as a “violent crime.”

Fernandes was allegedly using fake documents to travel, and the Portuguese authorities initially detained him on suspicion of carrying forged documents. After contact with the authorities of the Netherlands, it was confirmed that he was wanted on suspicion of committing a crime of murder that occurred on February 26, in Amsterdam, which led the judicial authorities of that country to issue a European Arrest Warrant for extradition purposes.
The Portuguese authorities sent him to Hospital de Santa Maria in Lisbon for an evaluation due to an injury on his hand. In addition to the pieces of meat, Fernandes also had clothing and bandages with “traces of blood” in his luggage.
The defendant had his initial appearance at the Administrative Court of Lisbon, and he will remain in custody and is expected to be extradited to the Netherlands within 5 days. The Portuguese authorities are expected to extradite him to the Netherlands within five days.
