Extended Tax Filing Deadlines
The Internal Revenue Service has announced that some states in the United States have extended tax filing deadlines due to irregular situations caused by weather problems. The tax season started last January 23rd, and citizens have only three months to send their tax returns and pay their taxes on time. However, states like Alabama, California, and Georgia, are exceptions to the payment schedule.
In Alabama, many storms and tornadoes hit the state on January 12th, prompting the IRS to increase the tax season calendar. Although not all counties will have extra time to send their tax returns, the affected counties will have an extended deadline. California also experienced several storms in late 2022, just like Alabama, and many counties will have extended tax season for this reason. Meanwhile, Georgia also experiences strong storms in the previous month, and eight counties may send their tax returns later.

It is essential to note that the IRS aims to make it easier for all citizens to pay their taxes without problems. Therefore, even if citizens are allowed to send their tax returns later, it is recommended to file as soon as possible. The sooner the tax returns are filed, the sooner taxpayers can receive refunds or correct errors in case of any problems with the documents.
