Aretha Franklin’s legendary song Natural Woman, which was first released over 55 years ago, may no longer be played because it was judged obscene.
Norwegian Activist Organization
The New York Post reports that the Norwegian activist organization The Trans Cultural Mindfulness Alliance (TCMA) attacked the well-known song on Twitter last week, claiming it is damaging to transgendered women.
The TCMA said in the tweet that Aretha Franklin’s 1968 song “Natural Woman” “perpetuates several damaging anti-trans stereotypes.” There is no such thing as a “natural” lady, the group continued. This song has contributed to the instigation of crimes against transgender women.
The TCMA claimed it is asking for the music to be taken down from both Spotify and Apple Music in an effort to stop it. The organization was started entirely by trans people in January 2023.
It encourages cultural adjustments to secure the acceptance of trans people. The TCMA stated, “Our objective is to advance culture and eradicate damaging anti-trans connotations in music, film, and television. Our primary goal is the transgender community’s awareness.”
In 1967, Natural Woman became available. It immediately rose to prominence as one of Aretha Franklin’s defining tunes. Franklin passed away from severe pancreatic cancer one week after the classic song entered the UK singles charts and became a hit for over 51 years at #79. Kelly Clarkson, Celine Dion, Carole King, and Ariana Grande are just a few of the artists that have sung the song in various iterations.
When Aretha Franklin performed “Natural Woman” at the Kennedy Center, President Obama cried.
Natural Woman Performance
Aretha Franklin discussed her response to her Natural Woman performance at the Kennedy Center in 2015, which is said to have moved President Obama to tears, in an interview with Vogue in January 2016.
Franklin said when asked what she thought of the news, “I’ve been thinking about it. I’m not sure. How do you feel? ”
Franklin said that Michelle Obama, the former First Lady, and President Obama had always been fantastic at her concerts. “I did saw them in the White House just before I came to Kennedy Center. We arrived. He and the First Lady did pass by momentarily. There are over 400 people in line, so you must speak quickly.
Franklin acknowledged that she had not been able to perform for every president since the start of her career. She said that President Carter “boogied” to Rock With Me in the balcony as President Bush presented her with the Congressional Medal of Honor, adding, “President Clinton, I sang at his post-inauguration celebration out in Maryland.”
Aretha Franklin claimed that even though Natural Woman was so natural, she can identify to her and that the song wouldn’t be an anthem for women. Like Respect,” she continued. Women simply seemed to connect with it in that way, and it turned like a mantra.
Other Reports, Aretha Franklin
According to one supposed activist organization in Norway, the lyrics of Aretha Franklin’s popular 1968 song “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” should be deleted from Spotify and Apple Music.
Last week, the Trans Cultural Mindfulness Alliance denounced the song on Twitter, claiming that it has incited violence against transgender women.
The group stated that Aretha Franklin’s 1968 song “Natural Woman” “perpetuates several damaging anti-trans stereotypes.” No such thing as a “natural” lady exists.
“The song has contributed to inspiring acts of harm against transgender women,” the letter said. The TCMA is asking that it be taken off of Apple Music & Spotify.
