Gov. Greg Abbott Announced $391 One-Time Payment
Millions of Americans rely on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to purchase nutritious food amidst the pandemic and the increasing inflation rate. But not all states participate in this federally funded program.
Gov. Greg Abbott said, “The State of Texas continues working to ensure families and children impacted by school closures have access to nutritious meals. thank HHSC and TEA for working with the USDA to provide these food benefits for Texans families across the state.”
Additionally, around 3.5 million Texans will benefit from this $391 one-time payment this month or before the new year. The reason why this is a one-time payment because the state was not able to distribute and load the SNAP or EBT cards during summer.
HHSC Released a Statement
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) which will implement the program said, “We’re proud to be supporting families in Texas so they can provide food to their children. Being well-nourished allows children to focus on learning rather than where their next meal will come from.”
HHSC oversees the implementation of the program and the U.S. Department of Agriculture has approved an amount of $1.4 billion to execute the SNAP among the eligible Texans.
